Can I get the pneumonia vaccine if I am not allergic to the 3rd generation cephalosporin injection

People who are not allergic to injections of third-generation cephalosporins can generally be vaccinated against pneumonia.

Pneumonia vaccine is mainly used to prevent Streptococcus pneumoniae infection and reduce the incidence of pneumonia, meningitis, otitis media and other diseases caused by it. Third-generation cephalosporins, such as cefotaxime, ceftazidime, and ceftriaxone, are a class of broad-spectrum antibiotics commonly used to treat infections caused by various sensitive bacteria. There is no conflict in pharmacological effects between the two. Therefore, people who are not allergic to third-generation cephalosporins can usually safely receive the pneumonia vaccine.

The third-generation cephalosporins mainly exert antibacterial effects by destroying the cell wall of bacteria, while the pneumonia vaccine prevents Streptococcus pneumoniae infection by stimulating the body's immunity. The two have different mechanisms of action and will not interfere with each other.

Drug allergy is usually an abnormal immune response to certain ingredients in the drug, and this allergic reaction is not equivalent to an immune response to a vaccine. Therefore, not being allergic to third-generation cephalosporins does not mean that you will have an allergic reaction to the pneumonia vaccine. Although people who are not allergic to third-generation cephalosporins can be vaccinated against pneumonia, they still need to fully consult a doctor before vaccination to understand the contraindications of the vaccine. For example, people who are allergic to vaccine components, have serious illnesses, or have acute infections may not be suitable candidates for vaccination.

After vaccination, the body’s reaction should be closely observed. If you experience redness, swelling, pain at the injection site, or general fever, fatigue and other discomfort symptoms, you should seek medical treatment in time.
